The Salamander Smile Three Wells of the Sea Book 2 eBook Terry Madden Digital Fiction

Book 2 picks up ~6-7 years after the end of the first one, and it feels like a natural progression of the overall story arc. I loved getting to see more of Dish's old life in the contemporary world (with his relatives and Merryn's farm) and seeing the "mature" Connor and Iris.

In the Five Quarters, things that seemed relatively minor in Book 1 are now coming to fruition to be pretty darn significant in Book 2, and there were definitely a couple of moments that made me go "ohhhh" as I recalled the clues from Book 1. There may or may not be some emotionally brutal moments with favorite characters (so hard to write this without spoilers!), but hang in there because everyone's got a job to do and a role to play, and it'll all make sense in the end.

The worldbuilding keeps expanding in greater and more beautiful ways, and we get a pretty stellar build-up for book 3, which I definitely can't wait to read!

The Salamander Smile Three Wells of the Sea Book 2 eBook Terry Madden Digital Fiction Reviews

Hope there will be a third book
Another great story! Possibly even better than the first in the series. I can't wait for book 3 to see how the story wraps up. But I might have to re-read the first 2 books again to make sure I didn't miss anything!
Love Terry's imagination transformed into her characters. She has a talent of removing one from reality while reading. Looking forward to her next book!
Terry Madden continues her wonderful storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed the connected worlds. The pacing and transitions between were tight and quick. The rich language and vivid descriptions filled my imagination. The attention to details were great. The twists were unexpected and well done. One in particular easily reminded me of the emotion I felt with Ned Stark very early in GOT.

Salamander's Smile is a terrific sequel to Three Wells of the Sea and I highly recommend it!
This is an interesting mix of fantasy and speculation into Celtic lore. The storyline is a bit complicated and may require a second read to get the full understanding. But I enjoyed the book, the characters and the colorful description of both worlds.
Terry has once again made quite clear her love of language. I really enjoyed how carefully written this book is. It is completely possible to get immersed in the world she creates through her carefully crafted descriptions. Additionally, the characters are really and complex in their emotions. I enjoyed this novel!
For those like me, getting the hang of Epic fantasy, this series is just great. Map of the Five Quarters world is provided, and there is some vocabulary that helps ‘world build’ by taking the reader into a place where ‘jarl’ (chieftain), ‘solas’ (muse or seer), seneschal (head servant), brehon (jr. judge) are all things. ‘Alewife’ is a word I will be using around the house, you can be sure!

So, the main characters are all seven years older. Connor and Iris from the school in California, and Mr. Cavendish and his family in England. The characters, all, have faced challenges and coped with varying degrees of success. There are some interesting themes, such as the ‘circle of life’ in the Disney meaning, life paths interrupted, transformed, both physically and spiritually. Change is sometimes forced upon the characters, and sometimes chosen.

The story alternates between two worlds, like the first book, and the goals of the characters are intertwined. Some fun character conflict, mixed with some deeper ideas for those who look. “The river still finds its way to the sea.”

Been looking forward to this book for almost a year now, the second in the series. Cliffhanger for Book 1 (Three Wells of the Sea) set this up nicely, and there is a prologue so it can be read as a stand-alone. Book 3 comes out next year 2018, and I’m looking forward to it already. This series is a nice summer read, really liked very much.
